SCIENCE PLANS
September 17-21

MONDAY – TLW: View two “Brain Pop” clips on the scientific method. Students will also formulate testable hypotheses and documents results .
TUESDAY – TLW: Discuss the three types of models (physical, conceptual and mathematical) and review different types of charts and graphs. spi(6.2.3)
HW: Complete science at work - descriptions of jobs involving science skills.
WEDNESDAY –TLW: We will begin to identify and sketch lab tools. spi(6.3.2)
THURSDAY – TLW: The students will finish identifying lab tools and complete measurement calculations with graduated cylinders and triple beam balances. (6.3.4)
FRIDAY – TLW: review different types of graphs and how to read a thermometer on 3 different scales.
Update
HW: Practice reading a themometer and complete vocabulary review puzzle. The test is rescheduled for Tuesday, September 25th.

MONDAY – TLW: Identify the steps used in scientific methods. Students will also formulate testable hypotheses.
TUESDAY – TLW: Take first Think Link Test!
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Update! Re-anaylzed the steps of the scientific method. Students were given Chapter 1 notes and shown how to use them for nightly review!
THURSDAY – TLW: Complete reinforcement sheets on the steps of the scientific method.
FRIDAY – TLW:Discuss the three types of models (physical, conceptual and mathematical). (spi. 6.2.3)

September 3-7

MONDAY – TLW: No School!! (Labor Day)
TUESDAY – TLW: Create a blueprint of the science lab. This will be the student’s first trip to the lab. They will follow a rubric for grading.
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Go back to the science lab to complete their blueprints.
THURSDAY – TLW: Identify benefits of science in the world around us and discuss the steps of the scientific method. (spi. 6.2.3) HW: Prepare for a brief quiz over observation and investigation FRIDAY.
FRIDAY – TLW: Finish discussing C1-1 and take a Brief Quiz (spi. 6.2.3)

August 27-31

MONDAY – TLW: Complete a review cross word puzzle over lab safety in preparation for the test on Tuesday. Students will also find the broken safety rules performed by the SpongeBob Bikini Bottom gang. HW: Study for Lab Safety Test – NOTE: Please bring composition books TOMORROW – we will set them up for journal writing after the test!
TUESDAY – TLW: Test understanding of Lab Safety. This test will be kept in my files. Students will also start setting up for Science Journal Writing – PLEASE BRING COMPOSITION BOOK if you have not already!!
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Finish journal set-ups! Students will also begin to discuss the importance of investigation and observation.
THURSDAY – TLW: Continue discussing the importance of investigation and observation by completing a science “Apple Observation” activity. Students will follow-up this activity with their first “Science Journal” entry. (COMPOSITION BOOKS or LOOK ALIKES ARE A MUST!!)
FRIDAY – TLW: Use investigative and observation techniques through the “Are You FBI Material” activity.!! Students will conclude this activity with a “Science Journal” entry for a grade.

August 20-24

MONDAY – TLW: Take a test to show understanding of Ms. Lofties’ Way of doing things. (Classroom Procedures and Expectations). We will also discuss the answers to the test.
TUESDAY – TLW: Begin studies on Lab Safety. We will discuss lab safety information found in the textbook.
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Review and complete a lab safety packets.
THURSDAY – TLW: Create a 4-tab book on the safety symbols. Please bring art supplies to class.
FRIDAY – TLW: Complete 4-tab book on safety symbols. HW: Review notes over lab safety. Test has been moved to Tuesay!!

August 13-17

MONDAY – TLW: Welcome to Germantown Middle School! Students will meet each teacher on team 6A and start learning the GMS Way!! HW: Manila folders will be sent home for parental review and signatures – Due back Friday!!!
TUESDAY – TLW: Welcome to Germantown Middle School! Students will meet each teacher on team 6A and finish being introduced to the GMS’ Way!! Students will receive a school tour. HW: Safety Contracts will be sent home for parental review and signatures – Due back Friday!!!
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Each student will receive a daily class schedule and begin class rotations according to their schedule. Students will be introduced to Ms. Lofties’ way of conducting class and what will be expected. HW: All paperwork in manila folders and the Safety Contract should be reviewed and signed by a parent– Due back Friday!!!
THURSDAY – TLW: Continue learning Ms. Loftiest Way. Students will be shown how to behave with classroom visitors and how to conduct themselves in the hallway. (Stopping points, etc.) HW: All paperwork in manila folders and the Safety Contract should be reviewed and signed by a parent– Due back Friday!!!
FRIDAY – TLW: Conclude introduction to Ms. Lofties’ Way. Students will review classroom procedures and expectations today and briefly on Monday. Then they will take a test to show their understanding of Ms. Lofties’ Way of doing things. HW: Manila folders and Safety Contracts– Due back Today!!!
