SCIENCE PLANS
January 28-1 2008

MONDAY – TLW: Complete “A Tale of Three Climates” and Describe how Earth’s climate has changed over time and explain the greenhouse effect and its role in global warming. (6.7.3)

TUESDAY – TLW: Complete a vocabulary review and a study guide for the C7 Quiz on Wednesday. HW: Study notes for C7, Quiz Tomorrow!

WEDNESDAY –TLW: Complete the C7 Quiz. Students will also complete TCAP COACH pre-test question 33-64.

THURSDAY – TLW: Illustrate the parts of a wave and discuss how waves travel, wave speed and the types of waves. They will also complete the Ocean Waves Characteristics activity. C6:2 spi(6.7.4 and 6.14.1)

FRIDAY - TLW: Discuss the different types of tides and their relationship with the Earth, sun and moon. C6:3 (6.7.4) SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS ARE NOT DUE TODAY! BUT, BRING THEM IN COMPLETED ON MONDAY! (February 4th) Display boards, binders, models, etc.

Social Studies (1)28-1

SPANISH

Spanish will be taught this semester through the social studies class. Each class will receive one hour of Spanish instruction every 2 weeks. Don’t worry- I will not be teaching this class. Mrs. Smith, our Spanish teacher, will be teaching the class. The Spanish grade will count as 10% of their social studies grade. Each student will need to have a folder designated for Spanish instruction. We are very excited about this opportunity for our students to learn a foreign language.

6TH Grade Reporting Category: ECONOMICS

MONDAY – TLW: Discuss how economic activities define a culture. Students will take notes and add terminology in S.S. Folder. HW: Review terms for test on Thursday.

TUESDAY – TLW: Continue cultural economic discussions. Students will also use a chart to categorize a list of jobs as either being service jobs, industrial jobs, or agricultural jobs. HW: Review terms for test Thursday! ALSO: BRING IN AN EXAMPLE OF CULTURAL BORROWING. (Pictures fro the internet are allowed to help share and explain your example)

WEDNESDAY –TLW: Study “Ethnocentrism”. We will read (a 1937 magazine article) ONE HUNDRED PERCENT AMERICAN
By: Ralph Linton. Students will discuss and answer questions using peer groups. 6.2.4 HW: Review terms for test tomorrow!

THURSDAY – TLW: Review in class for today’s test by playing a game!!! Students will then complete vocabulary test.

FRIDAY – TLW: Have Guidance class today!

MONDAY – TLW: Go over C5 Directed Reading review sheets for TEST tomorrow. HW: Study for C5 Test! Check blog for additional study guide.

TUESDAY – TLW: Tuesday: Review the three major climate zones and where they are located. Students will also start drawing a diagram indicating the biome located in each zone with a brief descriptor. 6.7.3 HW: Bring in a sample of an “Evergreen”. Please keep sample size small enough to fit into a sandwich size ziplock bag!!!

WEDNESDAY –TLW: Complete the diagram of 3 major climate zones. Upon completion students will also participate in a “Climate Zone Challenge”. 6.7.3

THURSDAY – TLW: Complete “A Tale of Three Climates” and the science brain twister “Postcards From ????”. 6.7.3 HW: Review climate zone diagrams for brief quiz tomorrow!

FRIDAY - TLW: Complete lessons from Study Island (Computer Lab) ALSO, The “Next Time” component of your Science Fair Projects are DUE TODAY!

TUESDAY – TLW: Tuesday: Watch Historical Geology: “A Glimps At Earth’s History”. Student will discuss this video. The C5 TEST has been postponed until tomorrow.!

WEDNESDAY –TLW: C5 TEST!! Explain the difference between climate and weather. (6.7.3)

THURSDAY – TLW: Locate and describe the three major climate zones and describe the different biomes found in each climate zone (6.7.3) REMEMBER - Science Fair Folders tomorrow!

FRIDAY - TLW: Describe how Earth’s climate has changed over time and explain the greenhouse effect and its role in global warming. (6.7.3) DUE: The “Draw A Conclusion” component of your Science Fair Projects should be documented and submitted in your folder. Remember to show your chart and/or graphs!!!
