SCIENCE PLANS
October 1-5

MONDAY – TLW: Go over chapter 1 Test results. Describe the functions of producers, consumers and decomposers in an ecosystem. (C2.2 p. 40-41) (spi.6.3.1). The students will also create a 3 tab book entitled the energy connection where students will define, describe and draw pictures to illustrate producers, consumers and decomposers.
Please bring art supplies to class
TUESDAY – TLW: Complete their 3-tab book on producers, consumers and decomposers. The studentlesson. HW: Update! Review power point notes on food chains
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Finish working in a group to create their own food chain and food webs.
THURSDAY – TLW: Watch Brain Pop over organism interactions and answer questions in class over the lesson.
FRIDAY – TLW: Test knowledge over food chain and food webs. Students will also compare and contrast the biotic and abiotic environment and relate the terms to their neighborhood. (C2.1 p.36) (spi. 6.2.1)

MONDAY – TLW: Work on map skills. Students will read background information on Ancient Mesopotamia, then use a map to answer questions.
TUESDAY – TLW: - Study C2.2 “The leaders and rulers of the Middle East”. Students will also complete section review questions in class.
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Analyze HANNARABI’S Code and how his strict laws led to his people to overthrow his government–bring art supplies to class to illustrate vocabulary from this week’s lesson.
THURSDAY – TLW: Work in groups to complete “A New Way of Life”. Students will design and create their own form of government, laws, and consequences using their book as a guide.
FRIDAY – TLW: Students will present “A New Way of Life”.

September 24-28

MONDAY – TLW: Practice weighing mass using a triple beam balance scale. Review for test tomorrow. HW: Review for C1 test tomorrow.
TUESDAY – TLW: Go to the science lab and use the knowledge learned about lab tools and measurement in a practical lab. They will find volume, mass, length and temperature while they rotate through different stations. Students will also complete a test over Chapter 1.
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Distinguish between a food chain and a food web and explain how energy flows through a food web. (C2.2 p42) (spi.6.3.1) HW: Complete The Food Web Game (handout).

C2.1, p73-74 spi6.5.5 HW:‡ Students will write a brief summary on one of the inventions mentioned in C2.1, the problem it solves, and its effect on society. Study the role of government in Mesopotamia - Monarchy and its effect on society C2.1, p73 spi6.4.4
TUESDAY – TLW:Discover the concept of “Social Classes” in Mesopotamia C2.1, p77 spi6.4.4 Student will also construct a diagram illustration from top to bottom the division of social classes.

MONDAY – TLW: View two “Brain Pop” clips on the scientific method. Students will also formulate testable hypotheses and documents results .
TUESDAY – TLW: Discuss the three types of models (physical, conceptual and mathematical) and review different types of charts and graphs. spi(6.2.3)
HW: Complete science at work - descriptions of jobs involving science skills.
WEDNESDAY –TLW: We will begin to identify and sketch lab tools. spi(6.3.2)
THURSDAY – TLW: The students will finish identifying lab tools and complete measurement calculations with graduated cylinders and triple beam balances. (6.3.4)
FRIDAY – TLW: review different types of graphs and how to read a thermometer on 3 different scales.
Update
HW: Practice reading a themometer and complete vocabulary review puzzle. The test is rescheduled for Tuesday, September 25th.

TUESDAY – TLW: Further studies of the parallel time line. C1/skill lesson, p60 spi(6.5.1). Students will be given a handout and instructions on a time line project called “A PENNY in TIME.’’

WEDNESDAY –TLW: Update! Re-anaylzed the steps of the scientific method. Students were given Chapter 1 notes and shown how to use them for nightly review!
THURSDAY – TLW: Complete reinforcement sheets on the steps of the scientific method.
FRIDAY – TLW:Discuss the three types of models (physical, conceptual and mathematical). (spi. 6.2.3)

MONDAY – TLW: Examine the life of Early Farmers C1-2, p.56. Students will explore how and why early people tamed nature for their own use. spi(6.1.1) Students will also view “Walking with Cavemen” – a film of early life ways.
TUESDAY – TLW: Identify the positive and negative changes to a society that began to raise livestock and grow crops C1-2, p.57-58. spi(6.1.1) HW: Work on map skills. “The First Civilizations? Update - This HW assignment will be reissued. Not due Wednesday!!
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Realize how agriculture led to year-round villages and more complex societies. C1-1, p.59 spi(6.4.1) Students will also begin the Chapter 1 review in class p.71 Test is Friday. HW: Finish chapter review if you did not finish in class.
Update: We will actually start our Chapter review in class tomorrow since we did not get to it today! Please finish working on your map skills using a compass rose.
THURSDAY – TLW: Listen to the story of Skara Brae. Students discover a different culture with the same basic needs as any other society.
C1-3, p.62-68. spi(6.1.1) HW: Test is TOMORROW!!!. Please Study.
FRIDAY – TLW: Q & A session over C1. Students will then complete the Early Lifeways Chapter 1 Test! Bring DEAR book to read after test.

MONDAY – TLW: No School!! (Labor Day)
TUESDAY – TLW: Create a blueprint of the science lab. This will be the student’s first trip to the lab. They will follow a rubric for grading.
WEDNESDAY –TLW: Go back to the science lab to complete their blueprints.
THURSDAY – TLW: Identify benefits of science in the world around us and discuss the steps of the scientific method. (spi. 6.2.3) HW: Prepare for a brief quiz over observation and investigation FRIDAY.
FRIDAY – TLW: Finish discussing C1-1 and take a Brief Quiz (spi. 6.2.3)

WEDNESDAY –TLW: Read C1 p.51 Why and How People Lived and Why They Worked in Groups–identify vocabulary terms in C1-1 spi(6.2.3)
THURSDAY – TLW: Write a personal narrative imagining they are early hunters describing a typical day of hunting in the stone age using p.52-53 spi(6.2.3) NOTE: We finished C1-1 in class today! The writing assignment should be completed for a homework grade.
FRIDAY – TLW: Discuss C1-1 review questions on p.55. Students will also reinforce map skills through a compass rose and a map logic assignment. spi(6.1.1)
